Lindy Hop

Balboa

Open level - Min strong Intermediate Plus

Lindy Hop - INTERMEDIATE

No audition required.

This level is designed for dancers who are confident in class, but may feel a little nervous stepping onto the social floor at a bigger event.

We’ve created a premium, extremely supportive learning environment to help you feel comfortable, confident, and ready to enjoy the weekend. You’ll have the same teachers for the entire weekend, so you can build trust and receive consistent, personalised guidance. Class sizes are also kept smaller, allowing for more individual attention and a more relaxed experience.

You are familiar with 6-count and 8-count rhythms and know basic Charleston, but may still find it challenging to put everything together while social dancing. You might feel unsure, hesitate, or lose confidence when dancing with new partners — and that’s completely normal.

This is a guided intermediate intensive focused on helping you connect the dots. You’ll work on timing, transitions, connection, and practical tools for social dancing so you can feel more relaxed and confident — not just in class, but out on the dance floor.

And yes — you’ll still learn some cool moves and fun variations to keep things exciting 😉

This level is perfect if you know the basics but want to feel better, safer, and more confident dancing with others.

Teachers: Ramona Staffeld and TBA

Lindy Hop - INTERMEDIATE PLUS / ADVANCED

No audition required.

This level is for confident social dancers who are ready to be challenged and take their dancing to the next level.

You’ve been dancing Lindy Hop for a solid amount of time, with regular classes and social dancing. You’re comfortable with both 6-count and 8-count rhythms, can switch between Charleston and Lindy Hop with ease, and can mix rhythms and variations without needing to think about your basics.

You’ve likely attended workshops — and may even travel for them — and are actively investing in improving your dancing.

At this level, we move beyond just learning moves. You’ll be working on refining your technique, improving connection, developing musicality, and building confidence with improvisation.

You’ll still learn fun, dynamic variations and “cool moves”, but the focus is on how you dance — quality of movement, timing, and expression — so everything feels better and more natural on the social floor.

Classes will move at a faster pace, and you’ll be encouraged to challenge yourself, take risks, and explore your own style. You should feel comfortable dancing with a wide range of partners and adapting to different tempos and music.

This level is perfect for dancers who are already confident socially and are ready to level up their dancing, not just expand their repertoire.

Teachers: Marie and Felix, Naomi and Peter

Lindy Hop - VERY EXPERIENCED / INVITATIONAL

This track will be a smaller group of dancers who are ready for a big challenge. You have probably been dancing Lindy Hop for a long time now, and likely travel, teach, compete and or perform in troupes.

You are able to quickly master new steps and variations, because you already draw on a big repertoire of figures and variations. You are able to lead or follow without effort and are able to change patterns at any time making transitions natural and comfortable. You understand that dancing is a communication between yourself and your partner and are able to give your partner enough freedom and space to express themselves and play off of each other. You can dance fluently, and dynamically from slow to very fast music, you maintain your balance and your timing even in complex movements. You’d like to play with the quality of your movements, improve your improvisational skills, use different levels of musicality, and bring an extra level of finesse to your leading or following.

At this level self-criticism is probably your greatest asset. The MASTERS/INVITATIONAL  class will be a working environment of a very high standard. Please express your interest for this level at registration, auditions/level checks may be required and space is limited.

At the time of registration please choose this level and you will be sent a simple application and then an invitation to audition.  The auditions are open only to those with a full two day pass.

Teachers: Marie and Felix, Naomi and Peter

Balboa - OPEN LEVEL – Min Strong Intermediate+

Ready to level up your Balboa?

This open level stream is designed for dancers with a solid intermediate foundation who want to refine their technique, improve connection, and expand their musicality.

You’ll explore flow, precision, and dynamic variations — building the skills to dance comfortably at faster tempos while staying relaxed and connected.

Is this level right for you?

You’ll get the most out of this stream if you can:

  • Confidently dance Balboa socially (not just in class)
  • Stay on time at a range of tempos, including faster songs
  • Lead or follow comfortably with a variety of partners
  • Combine basic movements and transitions without thinking too much
  • Have at least 6+ months of consistent Balboa experience (or equivalent)

Not quite there yet?

If you’re newer to Balboa or still building confidence with the basics, this level may feel fast-paced — but don’t worry, we’ll have plenty of amazing Lindy options for you across the weekend.

Teachers: Teni and Jeremy
